"Hungarian Influences."
For centuries, Hungary has endured many waves of conflict, political change, and cultural exchange across its plains. Nevertheless, striking Hungarian elements of music have survived intact in the
works of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, and later
in the works of Liszt and Brahms. This lecture will examine
these distinctly Hungarian musical characteristics and
some of the works that best embody them.

Hannah Krening

"Pedaling and its Enhancement of Artistry at the Piano"

If “pedaling” seems like a simple subject, it’s time for
another look! The pedals can be abused, used adequately,
or used in multiple ways to enhance the piano’s expressive
capability. Damper pedal techniques discussed in this talk and
demonstration include the execution and teaching of legato
pedal and its variants, staccato pedal, partialdamping, partial
changes, diminuendo/crescendo pedaling and flutter pedal.
The sostenuto and una corda pedals also merit thoughtful use. This presentation covers the mechanics, illustrations of all techniques at the piano, and will also touch on options in pedaling to suit varied aesthetic tastes.
