The Matthay Festival
is designed to offer participants direct and concentrated access to the Matthay teaching principles as they apply at all levels, including that of the performing artist. Daytime sessions
include lectures, demonstrations, performances, and master classes, and a recital is held each evening.
On Wednesday, June 16, the program will also feature the annual Clara Wells Scholarship Auditions.
The year 2004 marks the forty-seventh annual gathering. Previous Matthay Festivals have taken place at many locations throughout North America,
including Philips Academy at Andover, the University of Maryland, the University of Central Florida, the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, San Jose State University,
Williams College, Pennsylvania State University, the University of South Carolina, Wittenberg University, the University of Kansas, and Columbus State University.
The University of Richmond, located in Richmond, Virginia, is located on 350 acres of stately pines,
rolling hills and a 10-acre lake located only six miles from downtown Richmond. The Princeton Review has cited the
University as “Most Beautiful in the Country."
Air-conditioned residence hall rooms and meals
are available at the University of Richmond at the very reasonable rates of $30.00 per person per night for double occupancy
and $34.00 per person per night for single occupancy. Check-in time is from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Keller Hall Reception
Room (there will be a sign). Check-out is before 10:00 AM on Sunday morning. Please make your reservations by
clicking on the Registration Form, printing it, and returning it with
the appropriate amount to the address indicated.
The meal plan at the university is priced at $19.50 plus 9.5% tax daily and may be purchased on campus.
Accommodations are also available at the
Holiday Inn, 6531 W. Broad St., Richmond, VA 23230.

This housing depends on availability; if you desire hotel housing, please call as soon as you can.
The banquet is scheduled for Saturday
evening, June 19 at 5:30 PM at the in the University Club. The menu is as follows: spinach salad with walnut vinaigrette,
tenderloin of beef with Bourbon sauce, portabella mushroom steaks, twice baked potato, fresh broccoli florets,
dinner rolls with butter, dessert of key lime meringue cake or chocolate mousse. The banquet fee is $33.00
including tax and gratuity.
